Sweet Messaging Service (SMS)

July 26, 2008 by dennisthorne

o Uncertainty gives one a feeling of incompletion. When ground realities start surfacing, you are shown a direction. Walk on that path and discover your destiny. This is the first step to absolution. Do not look around for allies. People will join or leave you like pawns of a chessboard. Concern yourself with the unknown goal.

o I can’t laugh… what if a tragedy happens the next moment? I can’t cry… what if I’m in tears and something wonderful suddenly pops up? I can’t get angry… what if I’m scolding someone gentle? I can’t be soft… what if I keep getting hurt? I can’t be a hardened person… what if I trample someone fragile? Stop thinking about what you can’t do, and try to do what you can do.

o Do not look to others for strength. How will you live without them? So look within.

o Darkness is just a reminder that there is something called light.

o Judgementality leads to biases. Biases hinder your work. Such inhibited work affects the output. This influences your judgement once again. So why judge in the first place?

o Some true friends maybe loving and caring. The person may not have access to a cell or may have lost the set. The good friend might SMS you regularly, but still be misunderstood and may not get your love and care. Despite one’s well-wishing, one may not gain a place in your heart. That is because your friend does not expect anything in return.

o Fate… if you rearrange the alphabets of that word, the anagram so formed will be feat. You are capable of remarkable feats, so do not haste in embracing fate.

o Once upon a time, there was nothing. The elements fire, earth, water, wind and infinity combined with all living things and added meaning to that nothingness. If we came up from nothing, we must realise that we are nothing without each other and we mean a lot to each other.

o We may feel depressed that the weather is bad. But there is a sun behind all those clouds. Now it can be argued that excess solar radiation is bad for health, but then, that is why we have the atmosphere to protect us. There is also a school of thought saying that the atmosphere is affected, and so begins an everlasting worry about everything. Every exhibition of unhappiness is followed by a smile. That smile is worth more than the universe.

o The sun may occasionally take its own sweet time to show its radiance. It is up to you to smile and brighten the day.

o My thousand smiles (or smileys, thanks to technology-mediated communication) will be of no value if I do not get that one smile in return.

o ET’s favourite game – TT, ET’s favourite beverage – Tea Tea, ET’s favourite newspaper supplement – BT, ET’s favourite pastime – Eating, ET’s favourite posture – Seating, ET’s favourite temperature – Heating, ET’s mode of social contact – Meeting and ET is scared of Beating.

o I wish I could turn back time, to change a lot of things and cherish to the utmost the times that would come again. But then, will we be ready for new outcomes?

o Necessity is the mother of invention. The father is the inventor. Once there is no need for any of the three, the need for innovation arises. Ironic…

o Life is full of empty buckets to be constantly filled for sustenance. A bucket’s purpose is meaningless without that water. So is a person’s heart without people. Meanwhile, a rice-cooker not used to cook rice is useless. It is just another container like the rest. The other utensils can be used for something. But what about this? The summary of the message – food and water are needed for survival, be it food for thought or as a universal solvent. This thus completes the trilogy of life.

o Weakened after the weekend?

o Immortal = I’m mortal? Pertinent question, yet absurd.

o I started speaking late in life, I lost my home in Kuwait to Iraq, I lost a parent, I was made fun of for my die hard interest in movies, people viewed me with scepticism as far as my writing was concerned, I’m treated like an alien, I’ve been indirectly told that I’m unsuitable for the marriage market and I lost the once love of my life, but so what? So what if I’ve lost out on a lot in life? Now I’ve gained good memories through a friend like you.

o Are you a heavyweight champion to have a heavy head? Bad joke, but so is life. Laugh at it.

  • The Text: In summer, I say you’re a cool person whose face is as radiant as the morning sun. In autumn, you’re an optimist who says that though leaves fall off, new ones will come. In winter, your warm nature inspires me to endure. By spring, I realise that you were right all along.
    • The Paraphrase: The seasons represent my various states of mind, while you make me believe that there is something left in the world, however imperfect or flawed, worth fighting for.

o A lot of truths are presented before me on several occasions. At the same time, a lot of times, I am blinded from many other truths. At the end of the day, what I learn is that I should not blindly believe what I see.

o The morning sun rises silently into the air and reaches the zenith by noon. When it realises that its job is done, it slowly sinks back to the earth, where it came from.

Women’s Day Special: People call it Women’s Day but I will modify it to wish you Happy Equality Day! May this equality last for more than 24 hours, 24 days, 24 months, 24 years, 24 centuries and 24 millennia!

The Applications of New Media in Atlas Reborn

July 22, 2008 by dennisthorne

Given below is actual text matter from Nick Koshy’s Science Fiction Novel Atlas Reborn: -

Mediapolis: Being one of the most densely populated areas of the New Eden cosmopolitan, downtown Mediapolis’ gigantic television set called 3V was placed atop a tall tower. A group of people would always assemble at the base of the building to keep in touch with the twenty-four-hour news channel called Newsfolk.

3V = 3-dimensional Vision, an advanced form of television set comprising four thin screens emerging as non-radioactive holographic images, each facing a different direction (advantage: wherever the viewer stands, he/she can watch the show)

A ‘Transmit’ is a sim-card shaped transmitter. When attached to the human forehead, it sends out a powerful beam into the brain, stimulating the brain cells in a peculiar way (like drug intoxication). After addictive drugs went out of demand, the Serpent Syndicate (a crime syndicate involved in hi-tech extortion and distribution of addictive substances) developed this technology. Transmit usage was earlier prevalent in Virgo City (200 miles from New Eden).

Supergerator = An upgraded refrigerator programmed to follow voice commands of the consumer

Neutralizer collar = A remote-controlled collar for dogs (when required, the master can make the dog as still as a statue to stop it from running away)

Ultra-lens = A new type of night-vision goggles that use ultrasound to map the area in front of the user, giving precise contour lines. Plus, all objects are colored digitally with possible colors.
